iPhoneography: Getting the Most out of your iPhone Camera

A London based college is offering a 5 week educational course in iPhoneography, or 'An Introduction to Photography with the iPhone'.

Students will learn how to master a range of techniques using sophisticated apps to capture and process images. In an interview with Kensington and Chelsea Chronicle, course tutor Richard Gray commented: I developed the course after discovering there were a lot of people who had an iPhone who didn't really know how to use the camera. With the right apps and skills, the iPhone can be a powerful creative tool."

In response to criticism suggesting the iPhoneography course was just an Apple sponsored PR stunt, Mr Gray went on to argue that while it may not be the first choice for professional photographers, apps designed to get the most out of iPhone cameras makes photography reachable for the masses, adding "making photography accessible should be celebrated, not scorned".

New Headphone Ear Detection Technology Unveiled

A canny new headphone prototype that can detect which ear they are in has been developed by Japanese based researchers.

The ingenious design uses proximity sensors to differentiate if the earbuds are in the left or right ear and plays back audio accordingly. Researchers at the Igarashi Design Interface Project have also discovered a way to distinguish if two people are sharing headphones, and can play back a mono mix through each earbud.

The new headphone design is currently being registered for patents, and although there are no plans for mass production at the moment, the expected price per unit could be as little as $1 per set. A promotional video can be seen here.

Want to Get Snap Happy with an iPod Nano?

Spy shots of an iPod Nano prototype featuring what looks to be a rear facing camera have emerged on Japanese blog Apple.pro.

It wouldn't be the first time the iPod Nano has been fitted with a camera, according to cnet.com. A previous model incorporated a camera that would allow users to shoot video, but it was removed when the company introduced the touchscreen model.

Confirmation of the new technology has not yet been confirmed by Apple, and iPod fans will have to be patient as a release date for the newest models are yet to be announced.

Apple Rumour Mill Goes into Overdrive

More rumours surround technology giant Apple than any other technology company out there, and the last 24 hours have been no exception. Leaks regarding two of company's most iconic products, the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are now in widespread circulation.

First up is a release date for the much anticipated iPhone 5 - which, according to recent reports, will get its official debut on the 10^th June during Apple's Worldwide Development Conference.

In other news, the Boy Gadget Report website has gathered intelligence regarding an iPad 3 prototype - which is rumoured to feature a quad-core A6 processor, and will come with 4G LTE support.

Apple to Combat Scalpers with New Reservation System

Apple's Hong Kong branch is introducing a new booking system in a bid to combat the proliferation of iPhone scalpers. The term scalpers was coined to describe the phenomenon of illegitimate customers purchasing newly released Apple products including iPhones and iPads, who go on to resell them at inflated prices - preventing genuine customers purchasing the newest models at the RRP.

Apple now requires customers to register between 9am and noon on the day before purchase with their contact information and government ID number, which they must show on collection.

This news comes just days after outbreaks of violence were reported in Chinese Apple stores following the launch of the iPhone 4S.

Lovers of the analogue age are in for a treat with one of the newest iPhone apps to hit the market.

Billed as the "lowest tech accessory for the highest-tech phone", the Love Box app, despite its mildly inappropriate name, is in fact a video and stills mixer for an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S. Constructed using a wooden box and a sliding angled mirror, the home grown app allows users to simultaneously capture images in front and behind the camera lens.

Originally created to capture two people having a conversation for a documentary called 'The Love Box Converations", this nifty app is available as part of a limited edition run of 100 units at a price of £49.50.

iPhone 5 To Have 4 Inch Screen

The latest iPhone 5 rumour is out. Sources from Apple's Chinese supplier, Foxconn have indicated that the new iPhone will have a four inch or larger screen.

According to Apple blog 9to5Mac, several samples of the device are already under test, and so the iPhone 5 launch is tipped to be very soon.

If the four-inch screen rumour is to be believed, it would bring Apple's iPhone into line with rivals including the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Apple Outsells Hewlett-Packard

Apple's iPads outsold Hewlett-Packard's PCs in the final quarter of last year.

According to Tim Cook, the chief executive of Apple, the company sold 15.43 million iPads in the last quarter of 2011. HP only sold 14.7 million PCs in the same period. Cook said: "There will come a day that the tablet market is larger than the PC market."

Apple has set a new record for company profits in more than doubling their quarterly profits to £8.4bn in the final quarter of last year.

iPhone 5 Set To be Slimmest Ever With Inclusion Of New Sony Camera

The latest Apple iPhone 5 rumour is out, with Apple expected to cut millimetres off its next generation device, along with the inclusion of a streamlined Sony camera sensor.

The sensor component's description states: "This image sensor layers the pixel section containing formations of back-illuminated structure pixels onto chips containing the circuit section for signal processing, which is in place of supporting substrates for conventional back-illuminated CMOS image sensors."

Until now, the lack of small sized camera sensors limited the possibilities of slimmer devices. However, Sony has introduced a new back-illuminated CMOS sensor, which is rumoured to be included in the iPhone 5, allowing its design to be the thinnest ever.

Interactive Textbooks from Apple

Get ready for interactive textbooks from Apple following Thursday's introduction of iBooks 2 for the iPad, which is set to reinvent the traditional textbook.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said the iPad already has more than 20,000 education apps and more than 1.5 million iPads are in use by schools nationwide. The iBooks 2 app update is available now on the iTunes App Store.

The computing giant teamed with major textbook publishers such as McGraw Hill, Pearson and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, who make up more than 90 percent of the American textbook market. New e-textbooks will feature movies, integration with databases such as LexisNexis and interactive problems to work on. Students will also be able to take digital, in-line notes and create "study cards" using book text.

The Self Healing iPhone Case Developed by Nissan

An innovative self-healing iPhone case is rumoured to be hitting the shelves this year, introducing what could be the end to scratched iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S cases. This incredible case has been developed by car manufacturer Nissan in collaboration with the University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials Inc, and can apparently quickly repair itself when scratched.

The case is coated in a paint which is made from polyrotaxane, possessing a chemical structure which reacts when scratched to change back to its original shape and fill any gaps. Nissan claimed that while small scratches can be healed in just an hour, the chemical reaction will continue to work its magic on more serious damage for up to a week.

A prototype batch of cases has been produced for testing. If the prototype cases pass the tests, Nissan claims the product might go into production later this year.

iPhone 4S Release Causing a Frenzy in China

An Apple store in Beijing was pelted with eggs earlier today as customers eager to purchase the new model were disappointed on hearing the news that the store wouldn't be opening its doors as scheduled. The iPhone 4S, went on sale across China today and eager customers at this particular store in Beijing had waited in sub-20 degree conditions to get their hands on one of the phones.

Elsewhere in China the iPhone 4S was purchased by plenty of more fortunate shoppers to such an extent that it has already sold out. Apple have recently released a statement saying that the demand for the new model had been 'incredible'.

Waterproof iPhones on the Horizon

Living in constant fear of dropping your beloved iPhone or iPod in the toilet or the bath could be a thing of the past, thanks to HzO, who revealed their new technology of waterproofing the inside and outside of gadgets at the recent CES event.

The technology sucks out all the air from gaps inside the iPhone, iPod or other device, before pumping a gas into it. This is a waterproof material of nano-particle proportions that settles on and in any gap in the device. The gadget will then be able to work after being submerged - tests have proven it to work for hours while underwater, but this technology will be released as a protection method only.

Apple Co-Founder Says he 'Expects' to See iTV Launch This Year

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of iPhone, iPad and MacBook creators Apple has said that he fully expects to see the release of an Apple internet TV this year. In a particularly revealing statement in an interview with USA today he says he believes that the living room will remain to be the centre of family entertainment and that Apple's current developments are in-line with this idea.

This news will come as no surprise to iPhone, iPad and iPod fanatics who are likely to have been closely following rumours doing the rounds for a while now concerning the future release of iTV.
