US university to offer iPods to students
It has been reported that a university in the US is planning to give some of its students free iPods and iPhones.
The Abilene Christian University (ACU) has announced that it is to offer its first-year pupils the devices in order to keep them up-to-date with information on the education facility.
Homework alerts and directions to their professors' offices are among the facilities which will be made available to people given the wireless enabled devices.
The university's chief information officer Kevin Roberts said that the move was not just to provide "cutting-edge technology tools" to its students.
He explained: "We are also providing the web applications that ensure these tools will become critical to the students' learning experience."
Last month, it was announced that UK exam board OCR's new syllabus for A-level media studies including plans for pupils to submit some of their coursework as video of audio podcasts compatible with the iPod.
The exam board said the move had been made to "engage and inspire" pupils to produce creative projects.
