Kazaa ordered to filter

Kazza has been told it must prevent illegal music downloads to PCs and the iPod or be ordered to cease trading.

An Australian court ruled that Kazaa has ten days to introduce filter software to its programme, in order to prevent music theft.

"Copyright infringement is occurring on an enormous scale at this moment," explained Justice Murray Wilcox.

The filter works by checking user searches against 3,000 key words chosen by record labels and is updated fortnightly to prevent new releases slipping through.

IPod owners who want to make sure they only download music legally should use sites such as iTunes.
