A Manhattan-based software maker that focuses on Apple platforms said today that it’s joined a small U.K.-based games developer to release a “steampunk styled,” tilt-based puzzle game for iPhone and iPod Touch

Officials with Freeverse, which publishes software mainly for the Mac and iPhone platforms, said they created the game, called “Plank,” with Strange Flavour (note the British spelling).

According to officials from both companies, Plank is the first iPhone puzzle game that uses a built-in sensor for game play. The sensor, or accelerometer, detects when a user has rotated the device from portrait to landscape, and automatically changes the contents of the display automatically. Strange Flavour Managing Director Aaron Fothergill said Plank is the ideal game for Apple’s popular iPhone
