A new sound system which allows people to play back tunes from their iPod, CDs or their radio has been launched.

Japanese electronics firm Onkyo's CBX-300 system features a slot for loading in CDs, as well as a radio tuner and an in-built dock which is compatible with Apple's portable music player.

As well as playing normal CDs, the home stereo system can also play back CDs featuring both mp3 and WMA files.

Expected to retail in the UK for around £229, the CBX-300 includes controls for users to adjust the bass and overall audio settings, as well as 8cm OMF diaphragm speakers with Aero Acoustic Drive.

The launch of the new Onkyo system has come after US company Monster announced it is shipping a device which allows iPod users to wirelessly playback their favourite tunes on a hi-fi.

Called the iSoniCast, the technology splits in two – with one part of its connected to the iPod's dock connector, while the other half can be linked to a home audio system.
