New iPod dock has 80s twist

Fans of the 1980s will be able to embrace a blast from the past with the new Boombox iPod dock.

At first glance the dock looks exactly like an authentic 80s-style Boombox – but in a modern twist, the portable player slots were where a tape would previously have been, reports Retrotogo.com.

Once it is housed behind the spring-loaded door the iPod can charge and playback via controls on the front of the Boombox.

It also supports USB drives, SD/MMC cards and boasts an AM/FM radio and clock and alarm and 12w speakers.

Currently the Boombox is available at US branches of Urban Outfitters and costs $220 (£110).

This follows news that the zeppelin-shaped iPod dock from Bowers and Wilkins has finally made it to this side of the Atlantic.

Boasting a spring-loaded docking system and video streaming support, the zeppelin has been available in the US since last August and can now be purchased in the UK from £399.
