A diamond-encrusted iPod shuffle estimated to be worth around £20,000 was put up for auction in London last week.

Designed by Norwegian jeweller Thomas Heyerdahl, the music player – which has been named the iDiamond - is encrusted with 430 diamonds and features 18 karat white and pink gold.

Metro reports that the iPod, which also came with matching earphones, was one of several money-can't-buy products featured in the auction at a fundraising dinner.

Talking to ITN about the shuffle, My Heyerdahl said that he was planning to make just one.

"If we had made this for commercial sale, it would be quite a different thing because then you have to take care of, much more things to make it work commercially," he explained.

UK newspaper The Sun recently announced an offer in which people could buy a gold-plated iPod nano for a reduced price from the newspaper's website.

Created by Goldgenie, the device, which features the publication's Bizarre branding, costs £229.
