New casing designed to fully protect an iPod nano from water has been unveiled by H2O Audio.

The accessories company claims that its iN3 case, which has been showcased at the MacWorld Expo conference in San Francisco this week, can be used by people while they swim or surf.

H2O has said that the design is waterproof up to three metres and includes features which make it easier for users of the portable music player to control the player if they find themselves underwater.

Kristian Rauhala, the chief executive of H20 Audio, said that the new casing "complements the player's distinctive style" and provides sleek protection for the iPod.

Expected to retail as sport shops and via Apple stores in the US, the case is available for $79.99 (£41).

H2O's new waterproof case has been released after iPod accessories firm Atlantic unveiled a new waterproof system designed to let users listen to their favourite tunes in the shower.

The iceBar is expected to retail for £31.
