Apple's iPod technology could see the development of a number of new products within the portable computing market, according to one expert.
Gene Munster, analyst at Piper Jaffray, said that the iPod touch will be the first of a number of "internet-connected" iPods developed by Apple, Thomson Financial reports.
"With 70 per cent market share, we believe Apple is in the driver's seat in terms of transforming the portable music market into a portable computing market," Mr Munster commented.
As a result of the analysis firm's comments, shares in Apple rose by 1.2 per cent during premarket trading on Tuesday, according to the news provider.
The iPod touch enables users to download files, including music, movies and TV shows, from the iTunes store.
The device has a 3.5-inch multi-touch display and boasts a 480-pixel by 320-pixel resolution at 162 pixels per inch, Apple claims.
