Apple has announced plans to add a pink model of the iPod nano to its range of portable music players.

In a statement, the company claimed that the new version of the entertainment device is "much requested", suggesting that there has been much demand for the company to release a nano in the new bright colour scheme.

The iPod manufacturer also stated that the new model features a two-inch display for users to watch downloaded videos and look at album artwork on the device.

Speaking about the new model, Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice-president of worldwide product marketing, suggested the new nano would make an ideal romantic gift.

He explained: "The pink iPod nano is perfect for people who want a great new colour this spring, or who are searching for a special Valentine's Day gift."

Apple also stated that the device would be compatible with its new digital film rental system.

Launched last week, the new service allows users to download films from iTunes for a limited time to watch on their portable music players.
