Computer games company Sega has announced that it has brought its most famous creation to the iPod.
The new game featuring Sonic the Hedgehog has been designed for use on the video-enabled nano and classic versions of the portable music player, and features graphics and gameplay similar to the game's look in its heyday on the Megadrive console.
Available to download via iTunes, the platform game is priced at $4.99 (£2.50) on the online music store.
Speaking about the new release for the iPod, Sega president Simon Jeffrey said: "Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most beloved video game characters of all time.
"And with the installed base that iPod enjoys Sonic now becomes available to a whole new group of casual and hardcore gamers just in time for the holidays."
Sega's release of the Sonic game for the iPod is the latest in a number of recent gaming releases for use on the portable music player.
In recent weeks, Guitar Hero maker Harmonix released a game for the device, while Bomberman maker Hudson has made a portal featuring old titles available to Japanese iPod touch users.
