ITN has announced plans to make its news and entertainment programming available for iPod users to download to their portable players.

The news company's latest service, which will be supported by advertising company Ad Infuse, will make its range of news shows downloadable through iTunes.

Discussing the move, the managing director of ITN's multimedia division, Nicholas Wheeler, said he hoped that the new service would help the company "engage more users" with their content.

Ad Infuse's European business development managing director Stephen Upstone added: "The mobile market is shifting, and ITN has always been on the cutting edge of new trends with new and innovative ways to bring content to consumers."

The launch of ITN's new service has come after software creator SnapStream released a new version of its Beyond TV update.

Allowing users to automatically synchronise their iPods, the software lets an iPod owner download their favourite TV shows to their portable player.

The new version also allows iPhone owners to use their mobiles as a remote control for the programme.
