The iPod is the best invention of recent times, according to a new poll in Ireland.
Discovery Science & Engineering's study on technology trends also found that 41 per cent of the survey's participants have spent around €400 (£279) in the past year on new gadgets and accessories for their electronic items, reports siliconrepublic.com.
Carried out in preparation for Science Week, which takes place from November 11th in Ireland, the survey found that 20 per cent of people named the iPod the most popular invention, with mobile phones and the internet coming second and third.
Discussing the results with the website, Discovery Science & Engineering's programme director Peter Brabazon said: "People regardless of gender, age or background are embracing new technologies to enhance their everyday lives whether it’s for entertainment, personal grooming, health and fitness or in their work life.
"Everyday science makes our lives more efficient, makes our learning more interactive and helps us to communicate more effectively."
The praise of the iPod has come after the portable entertainment device was named Best Gadget of All Time at T3's recent award ceremony.
