The newly released iPhone product from Apple is predicted to be so popular that the manufacturer is looking to double its production levels, according to reports.

One source familiar with Apple told thestreet.com that Apple is going to increase its manufacturing target for the quarter ending December 31st 2007.

Apple has planned to manufacture 1.54 million iPhones by this date but according to the source "that 1.54 million number is going up".

The company declined to comment on these reports.

This week O2 announced it would be the first UK company to offer a contract on the Apple iPhone.

An Apple statement says the iPhone – which comes to the UK on November 9th – combines three amazing products.

"[These include] a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls and a breakthrough internet communications device with rich HTML email, web browsing, searching and maps. With its sophisticated multi-touch interface and pioneering new software, iPhone completely redefines what you can do on a mobile phone."
