Next month sees the introduction of a new product that promises to let iPod listeners play their favourite songs wirelessly, even when they're engaged in extreme sports.

The SportCommand device, from electrical accessory supplier Belkin, features a water-resistant design and flexible outer casing to protect the user's iPod from damage in the great outdoors.

Compatible with several of Apple's iPods, including the mini, first-generation and second-generation models, the SportCommand is set for its US launch in November with a European launch expected shortly.

Commenting on the new device, a spokesman for Belkin suggested that users could: "Listen to all your jams while you snowboard or bike.

"With its weather-resistant durability, the SportCommand is perfect for outdoor activities, such as snowboarding, mountain biking and hiking."

Belkin also provides a range of other accessories that are compatible with iPod s.

For instance, the company supplies TuneBase FM and TuneCommandTM AV for iPod minis, which enable iPod songs to be played through car stereos and home entertainment systems respectively.
