iPod Compatibility

Which iPod, iPhone or iPad Do You Have?

With all the new (and old) iPods and iPhones on the market it is easy to get confused with what iPod, iPhone or iPad you actually own. Well to make life easier for you we, at iWorld, have listed all the iPods, iPhones and iPads that are available to buy! Take a look at the pictures below to identify your iPod, iPhone or iPad and then use the compatibility icons on each listing (and outlined below) to make sure the accessory you buy will work with your Apple iPod, iPhone or iPad.
What do iWorld’s iPod, iPhone and iPad compatibility icons mean?

Check out iWorld’s compatibility icons at the bottom of every listing to see if your device is compatible with your chosen accessory. Below is a guide to our compatibility icons so you can be totally sure the accessory you buy will work with your iPod or iPhone. There’s an icon for every iPod and iPhone as well as icons for docking iPods and all other iPods. If you’re still in doubt and want to be sure that the accessory will work with your device refer to the text in the listing for more specific compatibility.
iPad 2
The iPad 2 is thinner, lighter and faster than the original iPad. The iPad 2 comes in black or white with a 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage capacity in either the Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 3G models. The iPad 2 has a 10-hour battery, has two cameras (one on the back and one on the front) and also has the FaceTime and HD video features as standard. With a flush headphone jack any set of headphones can be used with the iPad 2 and this icon means that the accessory will work with any version of the iPad 2.
iPhone 4 & iPhone 4S
The new iPhone 4S looks like the iPhone 4 and has the same standard features including 3G wireless technology, GPS capabilities and a flush headphone jack so you can use any set of headphones but also includes a dual-core A5 chip, an 8MP camera with 1080p HD video recording, iCloud, iOS 5 and Siri. Available in black or white, the iPhone 4S comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions. iPod Touch 4th Generation
The iPod Touch 4th Generation combines the classic iPod Touch look with FaceTime, HD video recording, Apple’s Game Center and iMessage. All existing iPod Touch features remain including Wi-Fi browser, audio and video playback, access to the App Store as well as cameras on the back and front. Three storage capacities are available (8GB, 32GB and 64GB) in two colours (black and white). This icon means that the accessory will work with any of these iPod Touch versions from 2010 or 2011.
iPod Nano 6th Generation
The iPod Nano 6th Generation has a small touchscreen interface, a clip on the back and has many of the features of the older iPod Nano’s including a built-in FM radio with live pause, VoiceOver, iTunes Genius and a shake to shuffle feature. The dock connector and headphone jack are at the bottom of the iPod Nano 6th Generation and it is available in six colours and a choice of two storage capacities (8GB and 16GB). This icon means that the accessory will work with any of these iPod Nano versions from 2010 or 2011.

The iPod Classic has a sleek, all metal design and is available with either 120GB or 160GB of storage. You can enjoy both audio and video playback with up to 40 hours of audio playback and the iPod Classic also features the CoverFlow interface. This icon means that the accessory will work with any type (colour and size) of the iPod Classic.
iPod Shuffle 4th Generation
The iPod Shuffle 4th Generation features a square design with a thumb control for audio playback. Available in five bright colours, the iPod Shuffle 4th Generation has a clip at the back, includes Apple’s VoiceOver feature and connects to your computer via the headphone jack. iPod Touch 3rd Generation
The 3rd Generation iPod Touch includes the same features as its 2nd Generation version but comes with twice the memory at 64GB. As a result its Wi-Fi web browser can work up to 50 percent faster. And for music it still has a built–in speaker. This icon means that the iPod accessory will work with the 8GB, 16GB, 32GB or 64GB iPod Touch.
iPod Nano 5th Generation
The iPod Nano 5G (5th Generation) is cased in polished anodised aluminium and available in a signature selection of vivid colours. The iPod Nano 5th Generation also has a FM radio with live pause and a pedometer to make it an even better companion for your workout.
Most Dock iPods & iPhones
The Most Dock iPods & iPhones icon means that the accessory will work with any of the iPods or iPhones that have dock connections no matter what the colour or size! All the iPhones have a dock connection and all iPods down to the iPod 3rd Generation also have a dock connection. Please note: none of the iPod Shuffles feature a dock connection so if this icon is displayed the accessory will not work with the iPod Shuffles.
All iPods, iPhones & iPads
If you see the All iPods and iPhones icon on a product listing then you can be sure that the product will work with any iPod or iPhone – new, recent or older iPod and iPhone models. These accessories either connect with the iPod or iPhone via the 3.5mm headphone jack or don’t need to connect to the iPod or iPhone at all! Please note: this does not include the iPhone 2G or iPod Shuffle 3rd Generation.
Older iPod Compatibility Icons

Some iPods and iPhones grow older and no longer quite have the cache they used to have. These include older iPod Nanos, iPod Touches, iPod Shuffles and the original iPods from the 1st Generation iPod to the iPod Video. The icons for older iPods and iPhones are outlined below and are still used on iWorld so you can be sure that the accessory you want to buy will work with your older iPod or iPhone.
iPod Shuffle 3rd Generation
The iPod Shuffle 3G is the smallest Shuffle yet – it has no screen, is the size of a key and has a unique feature called VoiceOver that tells you what music is playing. There are only three controls on the actual Shuffle itself – shuffle, straight and on / off. The play, track and volume controls are incorporated in the earphone cable. If you see this icon it means the accessory will work with the iPod Shuffle 3rd Generation.

Please note: although headphones and speakers will work with this iPod Shuffle model you will be unable to contol playback of the device.
iPod Touch 2nd Generation

The iPhone 2G is the original iPod / mobile phone. Featuring a large touchscreen you can make and take phone calls, send text messages, listen to music, view videos and browse the Internet via Wi-Fi or EDGE. iPod Touch 1st Generation
A touchscreen, a Wi-Fi web browser and a CoverFlow interface are the main features of the new iPod Touch. The iPod Touch features a large multi-touch screen from which you can control all your music, photos, videos and web browsing. iPod Shuffle 1st Generation

The iPod Mini comes in 5 colours and 2 hard drive sizes. It has a dock connector port on the bottom that syncs and charges with USB or FireWire. The screen is black and white monochrome (blue and white on later models) and has Apple’s unique click wheel. This icon means the product will work with any iPod Mini (4GB or 6GB) in any colour.
iPod Photo & iPod 4th Generation
